Daniel Snyder’s Impact on Communities Across the Nation

3 min read

Daniel Snyder is most well-known today as the owner of the Washington Football team. He purchased this team more than two decades ago when it was known as the Washington Redskins. Over those years, Snyder has progressively elevated the franchise to its current status as one of the most valuable sports franchises worldwide.

While Daniel Snyder is successful as a franchise owner, his professional success is rooted in his own hard work. Shortly after graduating from college, he launched Snyder Communications, Inc. When the company went public, Snyder was the youngest CEO of a traded company at that time. By the time of the company’s sale to a French firm for $2.3 billion, it was a Fortune 500 company with a billion dollars in gross revenue and more than 12,000 employees in dozens of countries. Snyder has been busy with his company and with his football franchise over the years, but that has not held him back from making a powerful difference to international, national and local communities in various ways.

Only a few months after purchasing his NFL franchise, he launched the Washington Charitable Foundation with the goal of supporting impactful programs and endeavors. Collectively, the organization has enhanced the lives of millions of people of all ages around the world. It has also raised almost $30 million for allocation to significant programs and organizations.

In 2019 alone, the foundation connected with more than 12,000 elementary and middle school children at four school districts with programs designed to encourage wellness and promote literacy. The Washington Charitable Foundation has also provided support to Loads of Love in recent years. Loads of Love’s goal is to help children who come from meager means to be successful in school. It specifically provides clean clothes to children who otherwise would not be able to wear such clothes to school.

In 2020, Daniel Snyder was presented with numerous critical causes and movements to support, and he sprang into action. For example, he made a generous donation of $100,000 to the local food bank during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, when residents in the area were struggling mightily. He also connected with the state’s National Guard to establish a testing site at FedEx Field. Social injustice issues also took center stage in 2020, and Snyder is no stranger to supporting similar causes and initiatives. He donated $250,000 to smaller organizations that are focused on raising awareness about social injustice. This is in combination with a $35,000 donation made to rebuild the historic Ashburn Colored School.

As a couple, Daniel and Tanya Snyder have given funds and time to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and to the Children’s National Hospital. Because of their large donations, both of these organizations have named new buildings in their honor.

Through the Washington Charitable Foundation, Dan Snyder has worked in conjunction with the Gary Sinise Foundation to recognize and support military vets. He also started Salute, which is an appreciation club for military vets. Youth for Tomorrow and Beacon House are just a few of the other groups that have benefited from Snyder’s expansive philanthropy.

Stepping beyond the local area, you will find meaningful effects of Snyder’s goodwill in areas that span from the Caribbean to Asia. After the 2004 tsunami ravaged coastal communities throughout large parts of Asia, Daniel Snyder played an instrumental role in getting relief to those on the ground. Comparable efforts were made in the southern U.S. states and throughout the Caribbean in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina and in 2016 after Hurricane Matthew.

The true reward that Daniel Snyder receives from his many philanthropic efforts is found in the meaningful ways that he has touched millions of lives worldwide. However, he has also been honored through induction into the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and as a recipient of the Charles B. Wang Award in 2014.

While these are among the most substantial examples of the differences that Daniel Snyder has made in the world, there are others. For example, he has supported the NFL by serving on various committees, and he has held positions on several boards. As Daniel Snyder continues to move throughout these chapters in his life, you can expect him to consistently reach out to help those who need it.
